Post Biopsy Pain Management

Lidocaine, used to numb your skin for the biopsy, Will typically last for 3 to 4 hours. When the lidocaine begins to wear off, you may experience some soreness in the genital area. You may take ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) 800 mg every six hours.

You may also put ice cubes in a Ziploc bag, put the Ziploc bag in a sock and put the sock in your underwear for added pain relief. Use the ice for no more than 20 minutes at a time.

Post Biopsy Wound Care

Keep the biopsy site clean and dry. It is not necessary to apply topical antibiotic ointments like Neosporin or to clean the site with hydrogen peroxide.

Monitor the site for signs of infection such as redness, discharge or odor and notify your provider if you notice any of these changes to the site.
